Makeup and Skin Care – Making the Connection

In order to cut down on time in the morning, mix a little bit of your moisturizer with your foundation…it will help both products to last longer and go farther!
To make your foundation look smoother, use a facial scrub at least every three days. Or check out a papaya gel (Origins has one called, ”Never a dull moment” face wash, leave on a few minutes, little goes a long way!). Papaya takes off the top layer of dead skin and leaves your skin smooth without a scrub. However, your skin will feel a little dry unless you top it with moisturizer.
Only wash your face twice a day, over washing your face can cause breakouts. Think you are too oily for moisturizer…you still need it! In fact, not using moisturizer can make your skin produce more oil! So find one that is good for oily skin.
When buying makeup check for Talc. It is known to clog pores and can also cause breakouts.
Getting regular facials can improve the elasticity of your skin, some techniques can even make you look like you’ve had a face-lift!
Massage and Your Muscles

Your muscle has memory, and depending on stress, sleep patterns, work environment and activities, injuries and accidents, length of time you have been in pain, age, nutrition, water intake, fitness and activity…these factors will determine the frequency of massage sessions you will need to maintain correct muscle memory. Just like a personal trainer, one session cannot turn your body into a fine tuned machine, one massage may have you feeling great…but due to muscle memory, you may need a few more sessions to get your muscles to hold their “unstressed” state. Like fitness, you may need to start out 2-3 times a week, then move to once a week, every other week and once a month for maintenance.
After a massage….Do Not
- Go straight to bed after a massage without drinking water (see benefits of massage for how much water you should be drinking!)
- Do not go back to heavy lifting and moving after a massage, or stay in one positing for a long time (like at a desk, etc.).
- Do not have a lot of soda, tea, alcohol or coffee these will dehydrate you. Watch medication…your body will circulate things faster through your system.
- Do not get a late afternoon or evening massage if you have low blood pressure, if you get too relaxed it could put you into a coma.

After a Massage
Drink as much water as you can, a massage has released toxins in your body, and drinking lots of water helps flush that out so that you are not as sore. RELAX! Do as little activity as possible to allow your muscles to keep their relaxed state. Get a good 8 hours of sleep.
Maintenance
Water Intake
Take your weight and divide it in half, that number is how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day. Up your water intake if you are exercising or active, in hot weather, or have had a massage.
Stretching
Stretching and relaxing techniques can help keep you feeling great for longer. Ask your massage therapist for some ideas if you do not have a regular routine.

Q. Why am I sore after a massage?
A. It could be that you need more water or that a certain muscle has not been used, stretched or relaxed in a long time.
Q. Why do I feel better a day or two after my massage?
A. Your body needs time to adjust to its new state, and get all the toxins out that were released into your system (why it’s good to drink lots of water). You will feel better and better with each massage.
